abhavadijoggo - lack of diligent practice

adahidagavesi - seeker of self-betterment

aradhejja - to attain perfect rational perception, rational knowledge, rational conduct and rational austerity.

arahana - means of cleansing the soul through rational perception, rational knowledge, rational conduct and rational austerity.

arahana - to seek / to practise / to worship / to acquire / to attain / to effect / to accomplish / to achieve

arahanapadaya - the pennant of perfect rational perception, knowledge and conduct

arahaya - to do the arahana

arahantena - focusing on attaining

cundaccudakamma - like the act of a churning stick, which is manipulated by two side strings. When one string is loosened, the other is tightened. This is how the churning stick works, churning the liquid in the vessel each time the string is loosened or tightened. The analogy here is, when the mendicant has not taken vows, he shall keep committing sins. So any austerities practised by him shall be ineffective. Just as a churning stick is pulled by one string when the other is slackened, similarly, the unrestrained votary shall commit sins on the one hand, while practising austerities on the other - thus nullifying the beneficial effects of the austerities.
